Common Queries

Have a question you’d like to ask? I’m committed to giving patients the best care and experience I can. There’s no such thing as a bad question when it comes to mental health. Check out the answers to the FAQs below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any additional questions.

Do you offer sliding scale rates?

No. Fees are set in accordance with market rates for Qualifying RPs. That said, I am aware of the social and economic barriers that can interfere with many in the community receiving the care they require. As such, in extreme circumstances where economic need must be take into consideration, an alternative payment plan may be negotiated between client and therapist.

How long does each therapy session take?

Sessions are scheduled for 50 mins in duration.

Do you use Freudian or Jungian analysis techniques?

Neither. I identify with and practice what is called an Existential therapeutic modality. Existential therapists do not only treat the mind, but rather assume a holistic view of the patient. Existential therapists are sympathetic to the physical, personal, social, and spiritual ways that we related to ourselves, others and the world. Existential therapists are human and person-centred and prioritise the value of relationship as it emerges in the "here and now" between patient and therapist.

What is the difference between a Psychiatrist, Psychologist, and Psychotherapist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who is licensed to diagnose and treat pathologies through the prescription of medication. Psychiatrists may administer talk therapy with their patients, but this is not always the case.

A psychologist is a licensed mental health practitioner who performs psychological assessments, diagnose, but does not prescribe medications. Psychologists are highly trained professionals who have completed advanced graduate training in their field such as a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. They regularly feature talk therapy as part of their practice.

A psychotherapist is a licensed health care practitioner who does not diagnose and does not prescribe medication. The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario states that a "Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life."
